Just purchased a 1989 f350 4x4 crew. Ive looked at many different models, but not sure which is the best. 460 v-8, c6. Havent had time to get under truck yet, as ive been busy fixing steering column thanks to a theif.
Really? Guess there is a big diff from chevy to ford...lol. I better start siphoning the rear tank. I mite have to replace the switch as well. The prior owner never used the tank..do the valves gum up or ever need cleaning?
Yes, there is a BIG BIG difference between Ford and GM. The switches hardly ever go bad. Those valves are a non-serviceable item. Since the "good gas" from the front is running thru it, it should be in OK condition. You must have found out the PO never used the rear tank AFTER you filled it up! Don't that suck?
Thanks for all the help! I planned on taking out just enough to lighten it for servicing. This ford is different animal than im used to...sorry, folks, last truck was gm. Dont hold it against me.
I'll agree. I should have said limited serviceability. I had to swap one on another truck because of foreign object damage (high centered on a terrace). The new one from Ford said in bold letters "NON SERVICEABLE ITEM DO NOT OPEN". About three months later the truck started running poorly and finally quit. We checked everything, but still couldn't find the blockage. My buddy ask about a filter in it but dummy me said "Oh, there's no filter in it. It says so right on it." Well guess what! Took out the filter, threw it out the shop door, then ran out and stomped on it a few times, put the canister back on and TA-DA everything worked just fine! NON-SERVICEABLE my foot! I can't believe I forgot about this fiasco!
Yes, at least remove the canister and look for goop.

Hey, look at my sig. There are GM's there and I'm proud of all of 'em!
Right now truck is in the shop getting new steering column and the breaks bled. Getting ready for a camping trip and would hate to run out if fuel. The canister is the same as the selector valve? I will look at the entire system...from switch to tank. Just hope its not the pump...costly.
