Well I'm back beating this dead horse again. The vehicles in this thread are donor 1973 f-250 2 wheel drive. Recipient vehicle 1967 f-250 2 wheel drive. Now that I realize I will need to buy a lot of new parts to switch my 69 over to disk on the front. I'm going to sell the parts off of the donor 1973 to a guy who has a 1967. He has manual steering and wants power steering and disk brakes. So I told him I would sell him disk brake parts and power steering parts if they would fit. The way I understood Number Dummys response to my last thread was that 1973 parts would fit if you changed all parts involved : column, steering gear, pump, lines, plus the entire front suspension system. Question is will they swap without a major project. Does the 73 steering gear mount using the same holes as the manual? Does he have to cut the column ? PLZ bare with me this swapping is all new to me.
THX David :
David, For the most part all of the 2wd trucks share the same mount holes 65-79. There are some mount differences between the I6, 302, & FE 352/360/390 and need to be kept family specific.
The steering column controls the transmission shift for factory auto and 3 spd manual, the floor shift has a plain column.
Brake lines, prop. valve, brake booster and other items are not on non power trucks. Power steering pump brackets are engine specific.
I only recommend buying the complete donor because of little differences that can only be found on a donor.
I have done this several times, I sell parts off the donor that I don't use and have always ended getting more back than I paid.
THX John, that helps me feel more confident that the 73 parts will fit his 67. The size of the steering gear and the way it mounted on the 73 made me question it. I'II let him have all the relative parts. You are right I got the parts I wanted and a little extra money to boot. THX David
The power steering gearbox will bolt right to the '67 frame, provided of course, that it doesn't hit the engine perch. You may have to change the driver's side engine perch for clearance.
Hey guys, can you be a little more specific on this possible problem. The engine perches in the 73 are pretty tall is that the problem. Haven't seen the 67 so don't know. Both engines are FE 390. THX David

The driver's side perches for trucks with P/S mount approximately 3" closer to the front, using the two front holes in the frame to allow clearance for the larger Ford Saginaw P/S gearbox.
Don't know where the 3" comes from, the ps perch for the Saginaw gear has a bend deflection in it. If I can recall correctly the bottom moves to the other set of holes. I have seen about a 3/8" notch cut in a perch that was not swapped. The gear will hit the perch if not swapped or notched, but you don't move it 3".
Well guys the 67 owner wants to buy the parts off the 73( steering gear, column, and pump). Question is seeing how I've never taken one apart before. Do I start at the gear or in side the cab. Motor is out so access is good. Anyone have input on the best process. Can I leave the wheel on?
THX David
Yep. Leave the wheel on. I'd start under the hood. Disconnect shift linkage. Unbolt the steering coupler (rag joint). Then move inside the truck. Unbolt the plate to the firewall. Remove the 2 bolts that mount to the bottom of the dash. Crack open a Malt Beverage.
