Thanks for understanding guys! You really are the best. My real problem is im 24 so im around this at every truck pull that I go to. Shoot I even get it from people that aren't competing!
In my opinion, these old Fords are more of a truck than any of the newer stuff out there. They are simple, strong, utilitarian tanks that were built solely for work. Very few parts were there for luxury. As far as the 4x4s go, manual hubs, manual T- case, and solid axels. I'll take that over my IFS SOTF 97 F-150 any day.
I drive a 2005 2500 4X4 Powerstroke daily for work. My 74 drives and rides smoother. The motor went belly up in the 05 last year. My boss spent 15 grand at the dealership having a new motor installed. It gets about 10 miles to the gallon. I can't see myself ever owning a diesel for personal use.
I think it's funny actually. Let them roll coal and laugh at the thought of their repair bill. I just don't like em snagging up the older diesels and destroying them. Not that I have ever owned one or see one in my foreseeable future, but if a f250 7.3 should fall in my lap I wouldn't object.
The best part about all of that in this area is the one person all the kids with their lifted stupid duty diesels call when they get stuck or hung up is a friend of mine with a '78 f150 with a straight 6 and 33" tires haha.
Didn't you just explain why you're catching flak? Truck pull dorks are only going to be impressed with something that looks like a locomotive from 1800.
I'm 31, and my truck comes with me everywhere... you should see the admiring glances when I'm in DC and places slightly more, shall we say, urban. And for you dudes who mentioned it: ladies of - to put it kindly - more discerning taste appreciate the classics. But then again, how often do you see guys 'rolling coal' on their way to the yacht club?

Hey guys. It kinda gets to me for the fact that it's my generation that's complete dumb s****. I'm 18 been on my own since I was 16 and I made money to buy my own truck. Now I bought a 79 f150 4x4 short wide box and I pay for everything that goes on it. I have a 07 Chevy Silverado 4x4 Crew cab with the duramax and Allison tranny that is my work truck and I love my 79. Everything I do with my work truck I can do with my little 351m and more. Just gets to me that my generation are spoiled idiots.
Couldn't believe what happened today, this is the opposite of what everyone is ranting about but I figured I'd share anyway. I was sitting at a red light and a 94-02 Dodge pulls up, I look over and there's two guys about my age inside eying my truck with the window rolled down and they were trying to talk. I was expecting an insult, but when I rolled my window down all I got was a "sweet truck man!!!" and went on to ask about what motor it has since they can tell it's diesel (probably could smell it from driving behind me). So I tell them, he tells me about his which was a 12 valve and the light turns, we give each other a wave and he pulls out WITHOUT leaving a cloud. I had a good laugh after that once I remembered this thread. There's some hope out there at least
I agree. I have the kids point of view on this cause I am 15 but I 200% take your guy's side. I had to work for my trucks, my parents didn't buy me a damn thing. I appreciate my truck more because I built it and I worked for it! As apposed to my long time buddy who's grandparents bought him a $30,000 chebby. He is just plain ungrateful of it, he hasent even had it a year and he is talking about selling it and getting a better one. He is one of my good friends not rippin on him, it's just the ignorant people at my school that make me sick. All day long people rip on my truck cause its 40 years old. Then they say his 2500 chebby duramax will walk all over my 75 f-350 with 4:10s a 460 and a 4speed. Makes me sooooo mad!!
Oh .... I see where this is going .... he's 'gonna get Gramps to buy him a Ford!
People who "smack talk" like that do it for two reasons .... they either like you and enjoy your company and the banter back and forth .... or they are insecure in their own situation (and are likely jealous of others).
No young man with his sweat equity in a '75 F350 460 4 spd need let his head droop. I've been here in this county since transferring in 1981 and I have worked many a wreck and watched this very wrecker drag other carcasses up banks, out of ditches, out of creeks and even the Maury River ... and off road shoulders where they broke down. This guy was a child in 1981, today he's making money with this same wrecxker .... and it's just a 351M according to the sticker (4 spd). Note the smile.
My old truck looks pretty rough I think, it's one I've owned since 1986, but I am known for it and any day I drive it to work is a day I'll get several always favorable comments on it.
