Actually, it is probably acts more to break up any drops of oil and allows the oil to drain back into the engine. Filter just seemed like an easy term to use.

tried to do the link thing for this but.... anyways page 20 about half way down"electric fuelpump for 51 F1', should have most of the info you might need.
