Looking for opinions

Ok so here goes....I'm swapping my V-10 for a 7.3 PSD in my Ex. I have a donor F-250 and just barely started tearing into it, now I have a chance to get a Ex with a 7.3 PSD with VERY close to the same mileage with a totaled body and sell the F-250 and have close to the same money invested. My question is, would a body swap OR a engine/tranny and all the other bits and pieces swap be the way to go. The frame on the possible donor Ex is straight also. I plan on keeping my Ex until it's ready for the scrap yard so I'm not concerned if I end up with a salvage title. Any input, opinions and expertise would be greatly appreciated.

I'd use the x as there may be other pieces you may be able to use beyond the engine swap (interior, trim, etc.) also the motor will be out of an exact match not the 250. I'm sure the 250 is very close but still not a perfect match. Just my opinion. Good luck, bro!

I was thinking along those same lines as well. I'm curious if swapping bodies would be the way to go. I plan on all new fuel and brake lines and a new fuel pump as well so having the body off would make everything very accessible. I would have to still pull the gauge cluster and wiring out of the donor dash but I think swapping bodies would cut down on a lot of little parts and pieces being swapped. Am I way off base?

I would try to pick the one with the engine in best conditions. Mileage doesn't tell the whole story.

The Ex with the totaled body, no frame damage at all? You'd be swapping your body onto that frame right? At least that's how I understood what you explained.

Yes I would be swapping my Ex body onto the frame of the totaled donor. Both engines run fine and both are under 140k miles, no signs of any foreign objects or liquids in the oil and no obvious signs of abuse or neglect so without tearing into the motors and inspecting both of them I guess it'll be a judgement call. The frame on the donor Ex is 100% untouched and straight. The body damage was caused from a pissed off coworker with access to heavy equipment.....long story.

I would do the body swap and keep the ownership from the V10 if the 7.3 has a salvage ownership now

It does have a salvage title. That's a good idea!

I'm leaning heavily on the body swap so when we're both done we'll have to compare notes on which way was easier. Good luck!
