popping sound

popping sound
09 F350, 119K miles. I have a weird popping sound coming from the dash in the far left (drivers side) Sounds like there is a ping pong ball stuck in the vent. But its not in the vent as I can turn the air off or on and it makes no difference. Doesn't make the sound at highway speed and gets louder when sitting at idle for anything over about a minute.
Any ideas?
