Hey guys!! I've been busy with work and haven't had time for my truck but I had a little time today and I unplugged the voltage regulator. Alt. Light turns off when disconnected.
Based on your statements and observations, your voltage regulator is partially bad, meaning it is able to pull the alternator online and facilitate charging, but the internal mechanism for shutting off the ALT light has failed. This is less common but does happen.
The regulator is the only place the ALT light can get grounded such that it turns on (your latest test indicates there's no external short). If replacing the regulator does not keep the ALT light off, then the problem has not been described to me accurately. There's no way you can maintain 14.4 volts without the regulator at least partially alive.
