psom swap into 1990 f250 diesel, need some help
Good day all you lovely people, and internet dwelling animals! So I've got an analog cable driven speedometer, with a speedometer gear in the differential. I've replaced every component :gear, sensor, and cable. but the gear, for the second time has apple cored and causes my e40d to behave very badly and my speedometer to quit working.
The last gear I bought only lasted me 1300 miles before it stopped altogether, so Ive bought my third gear today, and will install it upon arrival, but I would like to swap over to the newer (93+) PSOM gauge and never hook up the cable again. I'm not worried about the transmission getting a signal, because I'll still be using the gear driven sensor to operate that.
I'd like to know what I would need to complete the swap, what wires I tap into, and what wires I need to hook up in the gauge, thanks

Sound just like what I may be doing to my 89 F250 when I replace the AOD with a fresh rebuilt 97 spec E4OD(with no speedo gear in tailshaft).
If you have the RABS system, then the VSS is already in the rear axle. The PSOM will need that to function properly.
You will have to repin or replace the 90's dash cluster harness connectors for the 92 and up cluster to connect. That is if your replacing the total cluster with the newer one.
IF you just putting in a PSOM in your old cluster, then you only need battery power(memory) switched power, ground, 2 VSS wires and PSOM out that goes to pin #3 of the ECU(for E4OD to shift properly) and cruse control(if you have it). The PSOM has its own connector so that make wiring that up much easier.
Somewhere on here on FTE is some PSOM wiring diagrams, just search for "PSOM diagrams" or "PSOM wiring"
Let me know which way your going to tackle this, as I will probly go with the total cluster swap my self. More wire work but the cluster will not look out of place with a PSOM and older style gauges. I have not verified yet how the newer cluster will fit into the 87 to 91 dash.
