I am patiently looking for a 96 or 97 f250 7.3. I have looked at a few and passed. Looked at a nice 97 today, had one factory turbo and one aftermarket. Is that ok?
Anything I should be watching for that would tell me to walk away.
I don't know where you live but don't buy a truck anywhere from the north. I rebuilt mine 97 f350 with parts from Tennessee, Georgia and Texas and should have just bought an entire truck from down there, I'm from Michigan and salt and cold weather beats up the trucks up here. The rust is unbelievable and the wear and tear of starting the diesels in the winter, the roads up here are horrible and rough on the trucks. Believe it or not but I had to change the turbo before my brake pads wore out, that was at 121.000 miles. I have almost 300.000 on it now and the 2nd turbo has been great. The transmissions in these trucks do not last long, I've had 3 in my truck now, the newest last fall. I love the old body style trucks and they are pretty easy to work on. Mine has given me fits at our hunting camp twice for 3 or 4 days until I got it running. This last fall was 4 days with a dead truck. These motors need two new batteries (Motorcraft my preference) and has to be plugged in or started every 3 hrs in 0 degree weather or you can get in trouble in a hurry. I don't drive it like I used to Just to camp and in snow storms. I always wanted to get 300.000 miles on it and know the motor will go more than twice that. Just in the last year I have put almost $5000 into and have a good truck again. Last year it was almost gone. Buy a truck from the South!!
