All it is is square tubing and some diamond plate. Nothing really special IMO. People make bumpers all the time out of necessity or want, not to make money on them.
That depends on who is buying. You may be able to make two bumpers for the same price for the cost of materials, but probably not including the winch fairlead rollers. Then there is your time to actually do it. Only you can decide if it is worth $200 to you.
It looks pretty heavy duty, and it has the winch mount. Yeah, I'd give 200 for it. As long as there is no rust underneath. Go see how much a new one costs, or how much it will cost to have one made. Yeah, you might be able to buy enough material to make 2 of them for that price, but if you don't have the welding skills, who's gonna build it? Yeah it's worth $200. I am like the other fella though. I always try to jew people down on their stuff. It's all about the buisness. But, I wouldn't start out at $100. That's only half, what he is asking for it. That (to me) would be an insult. I'd ask if he'd take $150, then $175. But, if he is dead set, it is worth the $200.
It's not bad looking and looks strong. If it's what you're looking for it's worth $200 based on labor savings alone. I'm in the same boat, I've looked at a couple home builts thinking I'd save time building one but they're never exactly the right look I'm going for.
I'd say it's easily worth $200. Sure, a guy could go out, get some scrap, weld the same thing together for less than half that. But all that takes time. Fabricating something like that takes a lot more time than people think. I'm be willing to bet that whoever made it, spent a good 12-18 hours on that. There is a lot of planning, measuring, cutting, and finally welding that goes into that.
Look up DMI bumpers and you'll change your mind about $200 being to much. I have DMI on the front and back, They're expensive, they're heavy and they'll help you truck eat gas, but is someone hits you in one of those crap box little cars they're just gonna bounce off you.
Growing up in a welding/fab shop, it was comical what JoeBlow would say if he didn't think a quote on a one-off part was fair (we never made enough $ off jobs like this anyway, so it quoted a base fee of $75 and it went up from there). "Oh that's way too expensive, I could do it in 30 minutes!" We always laughed, "while then why don't you go make it yourself?" "I don't have the equipment" bahahaha
But yes I agree, it looks like a fair deal. That would take some time to make. If you have the time, fabricating is fun, but if you don't I'd just spend the money and be done with it.
