I am replacing my exhaust system and I want to upgrade it a little so I am wondering what diameter pipe would be best for a single outlet I6. Right now I have either 2" or 2 1/4" pipe.
The muffler shop said the same thing to me as J.R.'s post. He suggested a larger capacity single high flow cat in place of the two that are on there, a turbo muffler if you don't want it loud, and 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 max pipe. I will soon see how it works.
The first time I went to the exhaust shop, he said about 2 1/2" would be perfect, but he didn't seem too sure of himself so I decided to ask someone else. So I've decided on this muffler: http://www.dynomax.com/ultrafloweld.stm and 2 1/2" pipe. I am going to "Y" it off and twin it out the back. I'm not sure what to do about a cat. How much power does a stock cat on a '91 F-150 rob? How much would I pay for a highflow cat?
I was talking to a guy who just had his exhaust done and he suggested this: http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...0122&x=13&y=15 I really can't tell by the picture if it is a piece of **** or just a good deal. It is about half the price of the Dynomax so I'm not sure what to do. Keep in mind, I still have no idea how either of these will sound on my truck. Now I have to ask myself if I want to save some money and buy the one I'm really not sure about or spend extra money on something that I am a little more sure of.
DUAL 2.25" through Flowmasters and turned out in front of the rear wheels. Still have the EFI manifolds (it's a '93). I saw nothing but gains with this setup. Hook up to your bass boat anyday and I'll still get mine there faster!
It blows my mind, nobody thought dual 2.5" on my 5.0 was two much. IT'S JUST 2 MORE CID! Two feet out on either side of my truck you can feel the exhaust blowing STRONG! Don't be scared, these things are brutes!
