Lights

If someone can help me out that would be great, I have a 1966 f100 and I have tail lights but I don't have brake lights or turn signals at all and the turn signal light on gauge coaster isn't on and the ticking sound isn't going.

Well before I hacked up all my wiring and starting installing my new harness I had a stop light problem also and decided to just jump the gun and start it over fresh. You have two choices:

1. Alleviate your headache and stress by ripping out those 50 year old wires and start a new set of headaches with a new wiring harness

or

2. Whip out a multimeter or a test light and follow those wires until you find a short or something unplugged. You can also replace fuses.

If you're going route number 2 you should pick up a shop manual. You can either get it as a hard copy, on a cd, or a pdf file. The wiring diagram for your turn signals is under the instruments and accessories section of the manual.

Hope this leads you in the right direction!
Good luck.

I'm hoping to fix it quick for now because I drive it daily and replace harness later. I replaced the fuses, I'm hoping to have it done by tomorrow and can't get ahold of a manual by then if anyone has one and can send me the pictures of the pages for that wiring would be great.

Since you have rear running lights but no turn signals or brake lights, you know you have power through the harness to the rear through the brown wire to both sides, but not to the turn/stop side of your dual element 1157 bulbs. The common threads to this problem are the turn signal switch (I would think most likely) and the flasher since you said you replaced the 14 amp radio/turn signal fuse (the second one down from the top in the fuse box). I would ignore the brake light switch at the master cylinder for the moment because your problem is BOTH brake AND turn lights. Both brake and turn lights DO go through the turn signal switch. Check to see that all the wires are correctly hooked up, there is no corrosion in the connections, no broken or frayed wires, all the grounds are connected. Do you have two good connections to your flasher? The wire from the flasher to the turn signal switch is blue. The wire from the flasher to the fuse box is orange with a yellow tracer and a red wire to the stop light switch with it. If you have a known good spare flasher around (say, from your Mustang) try hooking it up and see if that works in your truck. Here are the other stock wiring colors to the T/S switch to look for: Yellow/black from T/S switch to left rear bulb stop/turn element. Green from T/S switch to right rear stop/turn element. My bet is that your T/S switch has gone bad and needs replacing. It's a common problem. If you decide to do it, buy a good quality Motorcraft one, not a cheap Chinese one or you'll be sorry. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks for the information I'll check it out tomorrow, I'm thinking it's the turn signal in the column, but hoping it was maybe something easier

Probably many F100 vendors will have the switch you need. One possibility is National Parts Depot. Their 9th edition catalog, page 174 lists P/N F-13341-5 for $61.98. I think Number Dummy knows of some that are a bit cheaper from other vendors. Cheap repro ones sell for $30 in the same catalog, but you really don't want one of those. Good luck.

If no 'ticking' sound suggest check the $3.99 flasher unit, it's the least labor intensive, and cheapest; check condition of the wires and connected securely, and also the 14 amp. fuse is still good.

I had a similar problem once with my 65 F250, when checking the fuses in the panel with a test light I held the tester to both ends of the fuse tested good not realizing the circuit was not completing due to rusty fuse clips in panel. So be sure to hold tester to the clips and not just the fuse ends. After cleaning the rusty clips the circuit was complete. Hope this helps.

I occasionally have to reach down and bump one of my fuses every now and then.
