1999 Expedition: I was having a issue with my tail lights and dash lights not working, so I pulled all out and check all of the fuses. After I was finished the headlights would not turn off. The only way I can get them off is to disconnect the battery, but once you turn them back on via the switch they never turn back off. I've replaced the dash switch but that did not solve the problem.. Is the dash lights, tail lights, and parking lights issues related to the headlight problem? How can I resolve?
Since you didn't specify that you have autolamps I'll assume you don't have them, in which case it has to be an issue with the hi/low switch. That's the only way for power to bypass the main headlight switch. Assuming there's no short in the wiring harness.
It has autolamps and figured out that I can get the headlights to go off by flicking the autolamp dial off and on. If I leave it on auto than the head lights come on and off like normal. They only stay on when the truck is running and I manually turn them on.. When the truck is running the headlights will come on when turn the dial to park lights as well. I'm going to take it to the shop tomorrow, I wonder if it is the GEM... I dont have a leak in the door so I dont think it shorted out. If I had tail lights I wouldn bother but we can't drive it at night.
Yes it's annoying, when I start it up its fine, but when I turn the headlights on they turn in but no dash or tail lights , then when I try to turn them off they stay on. Only way to turn them off is with the auto lamp dial. Replaced #6 fuse in engine and that worked but after fiddling with the dial it blew again, need to go out today and get more fuses to test. Also wondering if it's a headlight switch issue before I buy a new one off ebay?
Checked all the tail bulbs they all appear ok . Ordered the headlight switch hopefully that worked . Any other tests anyone can think of to narrow it down??
