Has anyone installed a KN airfilter on their diesel? I have heard different reports on the filter. One guy told me his got sucked into the turbo and another said it ran the truck much better and he got better gas mileage.
I have had the K&N in since I got my X. I really can't say if it improved the mileage, maybe slight perfromance increase. Never got the filter sucked into the turbo though.
I have one too - there is a support 'post' on the top cover that is designed to keep the filter from flexing upwards when installed - break that off before it pokes a hole through the filter and things will work better. Had mine for 40,000 miles with no problems - I recommend them
Thanks.....what is the price that I would be looking at for the filters......and what do you have to clean the filter with? I heard there is a special spray you have to use. Thanks again for the feedback.
I don't remember for sure but I think the filter for the X was around 50.00. K&N makes a filter cleaning kit with cleaner and oil ready to go. I think the cleaner kit will last 2-3 filter cleanings. Most good parts shops will carry both or you can order them at Summit Racing which I have found to be priced really good and very fast shipping.
I have one that I pulled out of my 7.3L '02 Ex after 3 months because I got a replacement '03 6.0L - worked fine while I had it... but I have no need for it now...
The '03 has a completely different beast of an air filter...
