My question is: When the fuel pump goes, would the truck still somewhat run?
Had a de-laminating tank drained the tank, shop vac'd it out perfectly.....blew out both lines back to the fuel pump with an air hose...tons of silver flake blew out. Changed filters....
Then ran truck, then drained the plug...ran truck...drained plug and repeated, until fuel is draining clean, YET TRUCK STILL WONT RUN 100% ??
Opened up the tank again looked inside, zero de lamination....so could it just be the FP ?
Truck runs, will do 50mph but pedal is un responsive, and sluggish...
Could have screwed up your injectors, the tank delaminated 3 times and was replaced 3 times in my uncles 04 6.0L before it was replaced with a plastic Titan tank, and he needed 2 sets of injectors. Whats your fuel pressure
Easiest way to find out is measure fuel pressure. Did you change fuel filters or check them after you cleaned tank? See how fast it fills the fuel bowl up on the engine. Did you see any metal flakes in the top filter bowl?

Yep filters changed....the bowl fills up good, and like i said truck runs 90% at times!....no flake in the motor top bowl.
would the truck do 45-50mph with a bad fuel pump?? I just dont want to spend $400 on a new FP and find out its not it.
A complete HFCM is about $300 at AutoNation (6C3Z-9G282-C) but you can get the pump by itself for around $150: PFP58054 - Parker-Hannifin is one choice.

That really sucks. Thats why I would of got a fuel pressure reading before throwing parts at it.
the problem is you need to measure dynamic fuel pressure, (while driving under a load)....the trucks fuel pressure idling would most likely have read fine, because it idols fine!
So it looks like the last thing would be injectors...anybody have any other input before i resort now to taking it in to Ford on Monday morning??
id spend 120 bucks on a fuel pressure gauge and a little more on a single pod and then figure out your fuel pressure while driving. its not like its something you wont use after..id highly recommend running a fuel pressure gauge all the time

Yea I know. But you would of still gotten a reading at idle and even when you got 50mph. If it was the fuel pump it would of got under 45psi which would of caused your problems. If it tested and never got below 45psi when you got maxed out then your fp was ok.
As Eric and Miles are suggesting, the most common fuel pressure gauge installation is a permanent installation on the test port under the filter. Therefore it is both a static and dynamic fuel pressure measurement.
