Look at the inner door, lower seem, look for rust there.
Put in new spark plugs...torque them to 28ft lbs with no anti-seize ...that pretty much ends the sparks plug ejection issue.
If it has a miss fire it most likely is a bad COP ( Coil On Plug)...stick with motorcraft COPs very few aftermarket one stand up other then Viston.
check fuel pressure if ya can...30PSI or better
change the PCV again stay motorcraft
by staying above the 2000 vintage you should get the PI heads (power improved)....with the extended cab you also should get both sides suicide rear doors for the extended cab
Crawl under it....look it over carefully....see any leaks or excessive rust on frame rails...be weary...trust your gut instinct

Reason: more
Do take care of CEL and codes quickly and not let them go for long periods.
Do pay attention to the definitions of the codes and not jump on the key words and get misled.
Do learn as much as you can about the computer operations to make trouble shooting more intuitive.
Do learn how 4x4 works for the same reasons.
Do down load a copy of the owners handbook so you have fuse locations and circuit ID.
Research these forums about PATS operation and other no start issues.
Do not power wash the motor because the plugs are located in deep wells in the heads and collect water.
There are many more but handle them as the come up.
Feeling in control rather than letting the issues be controlling, is the answer.
Good luck.
