I purchased a 2011 ford f250 6.7 diesel today from a dealer in indiana.during test drive i noticed a shudder when i was doing over 60 and i immediately brought truck back and told seller about it.so he gets in and we drive it got it over 60 i hit brakes.it shuddered again but not as bad.long story short seller said it was prob a shock or strut or ball joint.
So I bought the truck anyhow and during the 600 mile drive back home and only when i was in top gear the truck would shudder when i hit a large bump.i would then slow way down to under 40mph and it would go back to driving normal.it did this a couple times but i noticed if i kept it under 60 it didnt seem to happen when i hit bumps. So i get all the way home and check engine light comes on and i mean literally as soon as i got home from 600 mile drive.i pugged in my engine diagnostic tool and it shows a P0284 code.
Are these things related? Can someone please help asap.I called the dealer back and he says the truck is as is but he will look into it.I dont want to do further damage driving>I would greatly apprieciate any feedback or someone who can identify this thanks.
I think the cylinder 8 misfire could be shaking. The 5.4 gasses would do the same thing with a coil failing. Without a low circuit code for cylinder 8 I would doubt a wiring issue more an injector problem, just speculating. Clear the code and take it for a drive and see if the code comes back after recreating the shaking. Try downshifting and see if the shaking changes. This will eliminate suspension and tire problems
thanks for the replies.i did shut off code and it did come back.thing is there was no code prior to shuddering or soon after.code came long after the shuddering
it was weird code came on a few minutes after i pumped fuel too
but whole ride home 600 miles no code only shuddering and that seemed to happen only on rough road or bumps.on smooth roads it didnt happen no matter the speed
The shuddering is probably Death wobble or steering oscillation. Solid Front axle trucks are famous for it. It is usually triggered when you are in slight radius curve to the left and hit a bump like an expansion joint in a bridge at speeds around 50-70 mph. Slowing down to 35-40 usually will correct the shudder and you can proceed.
If this sounds like your problem, First thing to look at is replacing your steering dampener. make sure your tires are at correct pressure and check your shocks.
I had this at 36,000 miles and a new steering stabilizer fixed that problem, It has come back at 100,000 miles and a new steering stabilizer helped to reduce it, but has not completely cured my problem. This time around it may take some new parts on the track bar.
Something similar happened to by truck once. It was a misfire/poor cylinder contribution code for cylinder one and my truck to started to shake/run rough. It was at low speeds however, and continued even in park. My dealer definitely thought they were related. If the code continues you should definitely get it checked out.
Book says to see the description for P0263 for a description of possible causes for P0284 (Cylinder 8 Contribution/Balance). Any chance you're still under factory warranty?
No not under factory warranty.i have a code for cylinder 8.it does the shaking when I'm in too gear and apply good pressure to brakes and or if I hit a bump in road over 70 mph.im stumped.i made an appt with ford for Monday to get a diagnosis.it doesn't do it at slow speeds and is idling fine.

That's strange. It almost sounds like two different problems. I'd be surprised if the engine had anything to do with the shaking in this case.
