I own a 2001 Ranger 3.0 V-6, auto trans. My wife just purchased a 2002 Ford Escape with a 3.0 V-6 with 201 horsepower. Runs great. What is the difference between the two motors? What would it take to add the Ford pieces/parts to my 3.0?
Hello firecap and welcome to Ford truck Enthusiasts!
Your Ranger has the 3.0L Overhead Valve (OHV) "Vulcan" motor which as two valves per cylinder. It makes 154 hp @ 5200 rpm and 180 lbs-ft of torque @3900 rpm.
Your wife's Escape has a 3.0L Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) "Duratec" motor which has four valves per cylinder. It makes 201 hp @ 5900 rpm and 196 lbs-ft of torque @ 4700 rpm.
The two engines are different designs, and as far as I know, there is nothing interchangeable from the Duretec that could help your Vulcan.
Rockledge is right. Isn't it interesting how Ford seems to love to confuse the heck out of people? There are two 3.0L engines, and two 4.0L engines, and all four of them are completely different. I guess the Ford engineers just like to stick with even displacement numbers or something....
