An X-pipe is basicaly 2 u shaped pipes welded togther at the bottom of the u so it forms an X. an H pipe is a short pipe welded between the dual pipes making an H hince the name. The H pipe was said to help equalize pressure between banks there for helping torque. The X pipe does this plus adds in scavaging, using the exhaust pulse to pull the burnt charge out of the cylinder. It adds power everywhere. My Motorcycle uses and X pipe and it made a world of differance it also made a great sound change. Dodge in favt changed to an X pipe on the Viper to get a better exhaust sound and a few extra ponies.
although i haven't had an opportunity to test the V-10, i've done extensive testing on H and X pipes on my dyno with conventional V-8's and they act the same way...... using pipe size and location for tuning.
Well you know with a V-twin I can see there being a differance because you get scavaging. On a v-8 and 10 you have the other cylinders. I know NASCAR went to the X and I know the sound is differant. Other than that I am not surprised that you would not see any differance on a street motor.
Did you test them on race preped motors that are turning mor revs? lets face it for most of us all we can go on is the old inacurate butt dyno and you know how that lies.
we run them on street engines, and on restricted race engines, when the rules allow..... there hasn't been a street engine that we've run that didn't like either the X or the H pipe. as far as what rpm it seemed to help, it generally helps below and through the torque peak, leveling off after that. we've even run a Brzezinski 2 into 1's with good results

Will these pipes make a difference over having no x-over pipe? My truck is a 79 and I run true duals no x-over or h-pipe. Would I notice a power increase if I put one in?
i would expect you would feel an increase in low/mid range torque. they definately help the grunt factor. (i ran one on my old 460 dually years ago, and i think it helped it alot.... plus, it tamed the tone of the exhaust a bit).
