So I am hunting injectors for a MAF conversion using an AKC0 lightning PCM that calls for 30# injectors. The FMS conversion kit can with m-9593-b302 ev1 injector kit. Would the equivalent ev6 injector be plug and play or would I need tuning. I know I would have to modify the harness or buy the adapters as the sockets are different. The ev1 set is somewhat hard to come by but the ev6 set is a dime a dozen remanned on eBay and usually a little cheaper due to a more plentiful supply.
I have only found 2 full sets of 8 used that I can tell are the FMS ones and haven't come across any sold individually that the seller had enough of. How do I tell the impedance? There are a lot that say the are compatible but I am a little wary of using just any injector that someone says is a 30#. Did different manufacturers use different color coding because a lot of the ones that sellers say are 30# look like the Ford 19# color. Would ones from another manufacturer work?
All major domestic manufacturers including Ford used the same Bosch style injectors in this era so that's why you seem then advertised as being good for Ford, Dodge and Chevy engines. Injector impedance is something that has to be measured, if it's not specified you should ask the seller what they are, low impedance will measure about 3ohms while high will measure 12-16ohms. 30lb Ford injectors will have a red top as well but this color code is not always followed with other brand injectors.
Also note that while some of the newer style injectors deliver finer fuel atomization they are also more prone to clogging and sticking open.
So if I am following you correctly check with the seller on impedance level and as long as it is around Ford's impedance they will run fine
Also going with an ev6 over an ev1 may give a slight performance increase due to the fuel mix being finer and burning more completely they are more prone to problems due to smaller parts.
Evan_P I was trying to go the used route to save some money but buy them rebuilt. I've looked at new but would rather spend the money elsewhere on my build. I've looked at your write up on doing them myself but I may send off a used set to get done
Most rebuilt ones I've come across on eBay are around half that. I think that now more people are doing the the price has come down considerably to be competitive
Ev1 and Ev6 have nothing to do with the connector....you can get the ev6 with the correct connector...check the corral.net in the fuel system classifieds they are always on there.
