Ford attempted to reduce the cackle by putting an AE injector in cylinder #8. This injector is often starved of fuel and oil as it fires right after #6. The design of the injector allows it to inject the same amount of fuel as the others.

AE injectors get the name "long lead" because the pilot shot is slightly larger than the AD injectors.
Also some trucks didn't come with an AE injector at #8.
Early 99's did not have an AE injector in the #8 hole. Also they had AB injectors instead of AD.
Many 99.5's didn't have AE injectors either.
