SO...After 125k miles and some noises and lack of performance and missing I decided to change my wife's cam phasers. Went the CHEAP route and bought Dorman Cam Phasers. After about 3-5k miles the new phasers had already failed and failed hard. Truck would barely run...and would die at idle. It was starting funny and making lots of noise.
For those of you considering doing this job...DO NOT BUY DORMAN PHASERS. After the initial success of mine my friend changed his, and a couple other trucks for friends.
Last Weekend I tore into the motor again to put MOTORCRAFT cam phasers in this time. Bought them from Tousley Ford for a great price.
Attached below are the pics of the tore down dormans and you can see that the vanes inside had actually broken on both. From what I can tell its poor quality machining and tolerance control. These are precision parts, and although the fords tend to fail, at least they last 100k.
