I have a 2000 3.0 Auto Ranger with 162k miles.
I guess it has to be in "Park" in order to start.
Lately, I've been having to periodically wiggle the gear selector for my auto transmission in order to start it.
It seems to be getting progressively worse.
Any ideas? Thanx!
Could be a PRNDL switch failing . Slop in the shifter asy. is something common to look for also . I would check for slop first .
Yeah, it seems that the column shifter is not snapping convincingly into park. Like something is loose, so I have to play with it until I get in right. Otherwise it won't start.
How do I check/fix slop in the shifter say?
Much THANX!
Not too familiar with their shifter column , I don't see many , look where the shift cable attaches at the column . The mount may be loose . There can also be issues with Bushings and such in the column .

Ok I'll poke around and see if I find anything loose.
Thanx!
