I'm very pleased. The Kenwood rocks! Unfortunately, Crutchfield doesn't sell it any more. The best price on the web currently for the Kenwood is $41.99 at:
As far as wiring is concerned, I think the factory speaker was connected with spade lugs, which I had to cut off to connect to the Kicker. Then, when I got the Kenwood, I think I had to crimp some new spade lugs on the wires to connect to the speaker.
Remember to put the spacer that comes with the speaker on the underside of the speaker so that the spacer comes between the speaker and the woofer box. Also, there is a rubber washer, metal washer and bolt that come off the rear of the factory speaker through a hole in the rear of the woofer box. Removal of the bolt is necessary to get the factory speaker out of the woofer box...in fact, this is the infamous "mystery bolt" that prevents you from being able to remove the woofer from the woofer box without removing the woofer box from the rear of the Expy. Anyway, this leaves a hole in the rear of the woofer box that must be sealed up. I found that the easiest way was to use the bolt, washer, rubber washer and another large flat washer with an appropriate nut to seal the hole. If you don't seal the hole there is an air leak in the woofer box and performance will be compromised.
You will not be happy with it. The sensitivity is 83 db. To work with the factory amp and provide sufficient bass response, you need to get a speaker with a sensitivity rating of around 90 db or higher. If you read all the way through this thread, you'll see that originally I tried a Kicker that was rated at 83 db and I sent it back. It just wasn't loud enough. Also, remember that you shouldn't go below 4 ohms if you're using the factory amp or it will get too hot and shut off.
Just so you guys know, you should never hook up just one voice coil of a sub and leave the other one with no power. It's a sure fire way to blow the sub.

You don't have the slightest idea what you're talking about.
