Problem starting

Need help trying to figure out my problem on my Ford 1999 super duty 250 with 7.3 engine It doesn't matter what the temp is outside still problem starting

Things I have replaced are
Glow plugs
Glow plug relay
Fuel heater
Number 8 injector which was bad

None has helped

My truck starts fine when it is plugged into the heater no problem

I had it scanned at the ford dealership no problems or codes found

I had a superchip installed.
I took it back to stock today I was told that might be the problem

Thank you all
Any info is greatly appreciated

Couple things, if it starts fine when plugged in you still have a problem with the glow plug system. But you said no matter what temp. That don't make since. It should start when warm out glow plugs or not. Mitt turn over longer but should start. The relay mitt still be bad. Just because it clicks don't mean its good.

You should test your glow plug relay to eliminate that as a possibility. Here is a video on how to test, bottom of the page:

If the GPR tests good and you've just done glow plugs, Do you have a way to monitor PIDs while cranking? Such as RPM, ICP, IPR Duty Cycle, battery voltage?
Something like AE, scan gauge, DP Infinity would work.
Have you tried changing the CPS?
You could also try unplugging the ICP sensor and see if it'll start then.

Edit: pardon my rudeness. Welcome to FTE!

Problem solved

It was the superChip Tuner that caused the problem truck started up first try without being plugged into heater. Called SuperChip they couldn't help with the problem. Went back to stock mode.

Thanks to all that replied with my problem

Sounds like you have a compression issue. Just a theory, if your piston rings are worn and the block is cold, you could have enough compression blowing past the rings to not have enough to start. When the block is warm and everything is expanded, the rings seal just enough to get the needed compression.

Most people i've seen with this issue got there from using starter fluid instead of just replacing the glow plugs and their piston rings are shot. Even in peak of summer i'll occasionally see some one using starter fluid to get their truck started.

You can try taking the oil fill cap off with the engine running, if you get have exhaust coming out your rings are bad. You may see a little vapor coming out, that's nothing to worry about, you'll know if it's exhaust. If that checks good, you can do a compression check. If your exhaust valves are burnt and not seating properly you'll lose compression as well. I don't know of any easy way to check for that.
