Too bad that is the most gutless motor I've ever been around. They seem to want to grenade themselves too.
I dunno about grenading, they have a rep as a solid dependable workhorse. Theyre not huge on HP especially for thier size, but theyre stump pullers for sure. We have an 1160 (early 3208) in one of our beet trucks, and it gets the job done. Same HP as a gen 1 stroker, and thats NA. Had my heart set on putting one in my 79 until i found out they weigh damn near a ton, so in went the IDI. Just like anything else, they just need a turbo and some more fuel. Only down side is they arent sleeved. Would love to know what it took to mate the ZF6 up to it.
That's the worst idea I have ever heard of. It will cost you 3 times as much to buy parts for that cat.
I've got a cat skid steer and a cat 3306 in my Peterbilt and what I've learned is cat makes good stuff but when you have to work on it you better get ready to spend some money.
Im pretty sure the C6 is a 6.6 liter engine. There have been a few guys put 7.2 C7's in ford pickups. Im a fan of Cat stuff but I still dont see the piont in putting one in place of an idi or powerstroke
Cat parts are cheaper at the Peterbilt dealer usually-
If I wanted 2000lbs of engine on my front axle, I have a nice 6-71 just begging for a home. I wouldn't willingly drop a 3208 into anything.

I agree!!!
The 7.3 is reliable and cheap to work on. Unless your just getting tons of hp out of it I don't see the point. You can rebuild one of our engines for half what that cat will cost you.
We got one in a V180 Cat forklift, and even by forklift standards it's a turd! Years ago I drove a GMC straight truck that had a turboed 3208 and it felt strong. They also seem to smoke like crazy cold
