I just added a sister to my 2001 Escape V6 XLT AWD. New addition is a 2011 XLT 2.5 FWD. The 01 with 145K (original engine, trans, alternator) will be driven by a daughter now while the 2011 will be my new daily driver. Miss the kick of the V6 but love the MPG of the 2.5 with 6 speed auto.
My question tonight is if anyone knows if a full-size tire and wheel will fit in the under bumper location on the 2011.
I had wondered the same thing, so in rotating tires I put one of the road wheels up there. Diameter is no problem. The width of the tire (appearing as height when stowed as spare) is greater than the dinky tire/wheel, so it is more easily seen from behind the Escape if you stand far enough back. You can see some of the tire below the bumper.
Later, upon visiting the dealer, I saw the same look on 3 2011/12s that were sitting side by side. I looked at the stickers, all 3 had a full-size spare option. I believe that option was only available via fleet order method.
Someday I'm going to get another wheel, tire, and TPMS sensor. I bought the retraining tool, so my idea is to put a full-size spare into the rotation pattern, and re-train the car's TPMS to recognize the 4 wheels on the ground.
