spare tire (wheel) options for HD 18" wheels
for those of you who have changed over to the 2004 Harley Davidson wheels, with larger tires, what have you used as a spare wheel?
I have a spare 18" tire, but need to find a spare 18" wheel with the proper backspacing. (and don't want to drop $300+ on another HD wheel)

I still carry my stock sized spare and hope for the best.......If I do need the spare I will put it on the front and run 35"s on both sides of the rear. I think we need to band together and find a set or two of the '04 18"s to split up between those of us that have swapped over to them.
Time to start checking CL again!

I put a 275-65/18 on my 18" rims. This was the size used on new 04 King Ranch or Harley edition 18" wheels. Diameter calculates to 32.07"
The stock Excursion tires were 265-75/16 on 16" rims. Diameter calculates to 31.65"
So, new 18" tires are 1.3% larger in diameter than stock 16" tires. In a pinch, you could run this spare tire on even the rear axle for a couple of hundred miles. However, it would be better to run on the front axle.

Does anyone know if Ford put an 18" spare tire/wheel on their F250's or F350's? And if you know that, do you know the width or backspacing of it?
I'm assuming any scrapyard would have a spare tire/wheel that would be a heck of a lot cheaper than a the $300-$500 that the HD or KR wheels are going for on ebay.

In '04 when these 18"s were offered the trucks that got them had the standard 16" steel spare rims, as Forest pointed out the tire size that originally came on these rims was nearly identical to the 16" offerings.
As for what the newer plus sized rim optioned SDs have for spares I have no idea, I would assume it's at least a 17" to clear the brakes now but I'd also assume they have the wrong backspacing for our older leaf sprung EXs.

I know everybody seems to be pointing out that running a 16" spare tire is genreally acceptable. But since I already have 5 18" tires, and the diameter of them is way bigger than the stock 16" spare, I'm really looking for 18" wheel options. Anyone know of anybody selling a HD or KR 18" wheel?

Don't forget the lariat version too!
If you (or anyone else) stumbles across a partial set or a cheap/affordable set let me know, I'm keeping my eyes open around here for them, would be worth it to me go in on a set/partial set with others to make this happen.
