Electrical gremlins

I have an electrical gremlin cruising around in my truck and I would really like to kick him out.

1) I can indicate to turn right quite happily and everything functions as it should. But when I indicate to turn left, the indicators flash faster as if there is a bulb blown (there isn't, I found that out when I went to replace it!!). I don't seem to have hazard lights or a switch either, not sure if this was an option in '81. Maybe not in Aussie....

2) My windscreen wipers only work on high speed, I have intermittent, low, and high all on the steering column stalk.

Any help would be greatly appreciated team.....

A blown bulb would actually result in a slower flashing, not faster. A faster flashing would indicate some sort of short circuit or excessive electrical draw on the faster-flashing side.

Here is how to do some diagnosis on the wipers... it's for dash-mounted controls so you may need to adapt to your Aussie configuration but you can hopefully figure that out.

The wrong type bulb or a bulb that is not in the socket correctly would also cause more current to be drawn, making it flash faster. See if one of the bulbs is brighter than it's companion on the other side when it flashes.

might not be of any help but since the windshield seals leak quite heavily you might check the circuit board on the back of your gauges.

i had an old 67 plymouth belvedere that would blow the taillights when you turned the wipers on. there was a small hole at the base of the windshield that let water in. this caused rust on the back of the circuit board so the current would jump when i turned the wipers on.

cleaned off the rust, sealed the hole, no further issues.
