I've got to swap out a flex plate on my truck. I've never done one but everyone wants to charge me 600 bucks to do it.
Harbor freight has three jacks for sale. 85 bucks 140bucks and 300. I obviously have a 20 percent off coupon.
Has any one used any of their trans jacks? It looks like the cost involved in buying equipment will be about the same as having someone else do it. But I'll have the equipment and experience.
How valuable do y'all consider your trans jack? Anything I need to know? I'm obviously very budget conscious. Going this route I think will pay off later. Any thoughts?
800 Lb. Low Lift Transmission Jack
I have one of these. Plus one that fits into the saddle of a floor jack. Plus a way old scissor type one and a flat piece of plywood that I adapted to fit my floor jack. I liked the plywood on the floor jack as it would drop low enough to pull the jack and transmission out from under the car.
The HF one might be better suited for your use as it will be more stable. But, does seem to flop around a bit with the angle adjustments (kind of sloppy.
This one might even be better. 2000 Lb. Low-Profile Transmission Jack
In any event, support the vehicle so it's sturdy, and be safe.
Just looked at the 809 and 2k side by side tonight. Both had a little slop with the angle. I'm hoping the weight of the trans will offset it a bit. I'm not seeing 150 dollars of difference for my application.
Also looking into atv jacks. I they have a wider base and are cheaper. Might be easier to balance the transfer case. I'm losing the angle adjustment though.
You can usually rent those as well, just have everything ready to go and an 8hour rental would more than cover the time needed.
I've called what I think is everyone with in 45 minutes or so. I'm going to keep digging though. I'd rather rent if possible, but it's not looking good.
