After doing quite a bit of searching I can't seem to find the answer I'm searching for. I have an '05 EB with the rear seat dvd system. I'm wanting to do a slight upgrade to the stereo but stay stock so I came across the suggestion of upgrading to a better stock head unit, namely the Escape/Mariner Audiophile 6 disk head unit (6L8T-18C815-FD). My question is, will all rear seat dvd functions remain including dual zone audio and will the stereo controls on the back of the center console continue to work? I'm pretty sure all of this is wired in to the 2nd plug on the back of the factory unit that in some models is the CD Changer control but I also know I'll need to get an adapter for WWC connectors in my Ex to match the Phase II plugs on the new head unit. Will any of that functionality be lost through those adapters or will it all be pretty much plug and play so I can spend the saved time upgrading the speakers?
Any feedback from anyone that has either done the swap or just has the info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Bought this for my '01 Excursion in 2009 and moved it over when I bought my '05 in October last year. The rear radio controls work and I can still lock out the rear radio controls if I want to. So I would think it would work with the DVD as well.
Hey, thanks Tor. I stumbled on both those articles but of course none specifically state anything about the DVD working. What you said about the rear controls still working fine after swapping in this exact unit, though, makes me more confident that the DVD will continue to operate just like Ford intended.
Did you happen to get the PIE adapter to use the SAT input on the Audiophile unit as an AUX input?
There is ways to make the DVD player work, not fully, but partially with aftermarket decks.
I have mine wired in such a way that anything played on the deck plays on the DVD and music through the stereo but no dual zone, no headphones, no music sent from the DVD player. It can still play movies but no sound.
