I have an 05 Excursion with 6 disc changer headunit. Also the factory DVD player in rear. Any problems in removing the head unit and installing a Pioneer Nav unit. Dont want to loose the dvd features.
I just replaced the HU in my 04' X with the Eclipse AVN5495. The factory dvd has a power lead for the screen & a seperate power lead for the dvd player, you will have to tie the power lead for the screen to the power for the dvd. You will also only have audio through the headphones. My installer said he could hook it up where the dvd from the HU could also play through the factord dvd screen, but I wanted to keep them seperate so I could watch one movie up front & the kids could watch another movie or play games in the back. If you have steering wheel controls a PAC SWI-X will retain all the functions of the audio controls & the A/C controls are not effected by the HU swap.
You might want to take a look at the Eclipse units, I think the are far superior to the AVIC and the hard drive on the AVN5495 has very fast nav mapping & the music juke is awesome.
SWeet!! Thank you so much for the reply and I am off shopping. What didn't you like about the pioneer D1? I am hoping my installer can find the wires your talking about. Last night I was told it is a no go! Any info I can pass along?
If your installer can't figure out which wires to tie together let me know & I will see if my guy remembers which ones they were. I know it took him a little while checking wires to find the correct ones.
The Pioneer is a good unit but I think the sound quality is better with the Eclipse, and since I'm running amps & changed out all the speakers sound quality was a major concern. The other thing that really sold me on the Eclipse AVN5495 it the 30 gig hard drive; the navigation plans your routes faster than any other unit & the ability to store 3,000 songs with CD quality is great. The only downfall with Eclipse is it currently is not Satellite radio compatible, but they are suppose to have an update available in the next couple of months that will make it sat. radio compatible.
Which ever unit you go with I'm sure you'll be happy with the upgrade.
