So now the next question about LS diffs (don't you hate the no-nothing newbies?) - what axles do I have? I've found a list of True Trac diffs, but there seems to be quite a few that might fit a 2005 F350, depending on the axle. All my door sticker says is 3L. How do I find out if I have a Dana 80, a Ford, etc.?

No reason to check the pumpkin. Do you have a DRW or SRW truck?

Okay then. You have a Sterling(Ford) 10.50" rear axle.
Thank you. Now to find someone who can do the job at a reasonable price. Any idea how many hours a swop should take? I've tinkered with things like brake and alternator replacements but this is probably too complex for me.

That can be a tough one. It's not a very complex job at all but it requires a very high level of precision most of us just aren't comfortable with.
Unless someone else changed it out... I always like to verify.
I'm not aware of any other axle that'll fit under there. What could it have been changed to? Of course ratio changes are relatively common, it's pretty rare to hear of an axle swap unless it's replaced with the same one.

One never knows... I've seen all kinds of stuff in my years. I've seen Dually axles modified to put under SRW's. And F150 axles modified to put under SDs.
Never under estimate the "power" and surprise of backyard mechanical engineering.

Ha ha....you just reminded me of a thread I read on another forum. Some clown was putting a dually axle under his F150. Completely destroying a nice truck. Some people's kids...
