"New" van owner

Hello all, I've been over in the pre-power stroke thread a bit and occassionaly in the 67-72 F100 and FE v8 threads. I've looked around a bit in here before purchasing the latest edition, but here she is!

Specs:
1989 Club Wagon (I'm assuming 3/4 ton, GVWR is 8550)
7.3 IDI E4OD
~129xxx miles

She has some issues (which I'm sure I will be asking about) but overall we are happy with our purchase. Plans include being a weekend driver, tow a horse trailer (eventually), and maybe go on some camping and riding trips.

Looks good from this angle---and distance!

If the body is sound and no major rust issues it should give you more than a few good years for your intended uses. Mileage isn't excessive but since I know almost nothing about diesel engines tough for me to say anything about that part of it.

Hope to read more if you do anything even if its just routine maintenance---that's almost more fun to read about than do---sometimes!

Thanks JWA,

She is def a 20 footer, good from far but far from good

Rust isn't too bad, about as much to be expected in the rust belt, actually less than I had anticipated which was a nice surprise.

I hope to be able to document some of the progress we hope to make in the goal of reliability and functionality. Come spring time the interior is getting gutted just so I can make sure I know where everything is, all the wiring is ok, and all the rust is found

Our fleet is pretty full and we don't plan on letting anything slip away

This is a double post from the IDI thread, but I figure some of you may have experience and not visit over there...

Ok ladies and gents, opinion time!

I'm trying to get some stuff together for doing some services to the van. Things that require immediate attention (imo, correct me if I'm wrong) are the following:

Oil change (Going to use castrol 15w40 since I have it at work and a FL1995 filter)

Rear diff service (75w90 @ 4 qts correct?)

Trans drain and fill (14 qts of Mercon V atf?)

Coolant flush (opinions? Used Fleet Charge from TSC for the truck)

Upper and lower rad hose (opinions? want good but affordable parts)

Anything else to consider? This is our weekend vehicle now and the fiance's back up
