So I have been dealing with a guy about some heater parts that he needs. He has told me that he is looking for a 59/60 magic air control. The part I have a question about is he says he has been told that the 59/60 control is suppose to have a siver face in the center, a silver plate around that and then the chome housing. I dont ever remember seeing the face anything other than black. I have one with a black face and silver surround with black *****. I also have one with a black face with a white surround and white *****. Does anyone have or have seen one of these controls with the silver face? I seen a picture of it but it looked like faded black to me. I asked Stu to look in his master fridge parts book and it didnt show much, and I looked in mine and came up with only one part number and it said nothing about face color.
the one i took out of my 59 truck is silver faced and i think it was silver or grey surround. i would have to see if i could find it as i didn't re-use it on my build as i didn't put a heater back in. strictly a summer cruising truck.
This is the control in my one owner '59 F350, clearly a black face. That said, if anyone has one to sell, or the parts to repair mine, please PM me! The bottom cable lever is broken off right behind the face, and broken part & **** missing.
As I was removing the heater control from the dash, the broken piece of the bottom lever fell out. Next, I dropped the push nut that holds the top cable on, and it landed in between the shifter and the floor mat. While retrieving the nut, I found the **** for the bottom lever. My lucky day! That bottom lever is secured by a piece of thin sheet metal. Designed to fail?
I see that the broken piece is spring steel, designed to hold the lever down in the slot adjacent to the "heat" setting. It still seems flimsy when you know those cables aren't going to glide easily forever!
