I have a 97 F150 4x4. Its a little high for my wife to easily get in. Today on CL I found and bought a set of factory nerf bars that came off of a 2002 4x4. I looked under my truck thinking the mounting holes would be there, but they are not. Anybody put factory steps on a truck that didn't come with them. Im a little nervous about drilling in the back side of the rocker panels.
I'm with you, I would have thought there would be some capped holes or something.
Maybe they filled them in with wax?? IDK Poke a bit with screw driver, maybe you'll find a soft spots.
Or give a local body shop a call and ask if Ford didn't put the cab mounts preholes on every truck for Nerf bars or Tube steps...or call LMC ask the same question.
IS yours just a XT....or Custom...or former fleet truck?
They aren't holes as much as big ovals, should be a plate with two studs welded to it that you put in the oval hole, if the factory steps are anything like after market. Ovals will be maybe 3/4 as big as the mounting plate. Some have tape or a plastic plug from factory in them.
