The NP 435 in my 74 Highboy is about due for a rebuild, at least replacing the bearings and seals, as she slings a little grease. Due to a bad experience as a teenager, I am loath to leave any vehicle in a state of disassembly for any length of time that is not part of the actual repair process. I WILL NOT start any project until I have EVERY part I may or may not need so down time is kept to an ABSOLUTE minimum. I thought things might be easier for me if I had a spare transmission to rebuild and just swap the one currently in my truck, with the rebuilt one. My brother has a 78/79 Ford F150 with a manual transmission that I'm assuming is an NP 435 similar to mine. I know that his transfer case is mated to the transmission, while mine is "divorced". Is it possible to use this transmission if I swap tail sections?

 

sounds like it would be, You might have drive shaft issues (length) an tranny crossmembers lining up

 

From other threads on a similar subject, I believe you would have to use your output shaft. I'm not 100% certain though.
