I recently bought this electric assist choke cap but it didn't come with any instructions. But it did come with TWO gaskets. Can someone tell me if both gaskets are used and what is the difference between these two gaskets?
The image below shows one gasket, #9871, but doesn't have the choke baffle plate your kit came with. And, I know that 9871 is a gasket because I see it in drawings of the Carter 1bbl in the parts catalog. But they don't show a 4100 so I had to turn to a Google search.
But this one shows one gasket and the choke baffle plate. (Click on the link to go to a page where you can zoom in on the drawing.)
Thanks for taking the time to do the research, Gary.
I am not sure if I understand this. Is the choke baffle plate a metal plate, or does that refer to a gasket? My Autolite 4100 used the stat cover gasket only. (But the Autolite 4100 never used an electric choke cap, while the later model Motorcraft 2150s did.) I assembled the electric assist choke cap on my Autolite 4100 with only the upper gasket in my original post and it seems to work fine.
What is the purpose of the choke baffle plate? Do the electric choke caps need this extra gasket?
The baffle plate is metal, and I've always assumed its purpose is to keep junk out of the choke's innards. I'm not sure it is necessary, but there has been one on all the 2100/2150 carbs I've worked on.
