Pulled the spindle nut off... Now what?

Hello folks. Never really post anything here because of such great information, but now I have a question.

78 F150 4x4 rotor and bearing relacement

Everything came off without a hitch until I got to the spindle nut. It was loose. I just reached in and spun it off by hand. Strange. No clicks either, but I can see the perforated washer is in place. Now the real problem. The rotor is not loose. Am I missing something on this older truck that is not present on the later models?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Oh, and a pic for fun

also could have a bit of rust in there so once you get those off a few light raps with a soft face (if your saving it) or a decent mallet if your not.

I dig those wheels man. As far as your issue, try a couple wacks with a rubber mallet.

Thanks k5, I just figured that out. The washer is loose but kinda stuck in the threads. If I can get it out, I should be on my way

Wheels are AR Baja if I remember correctly

Nice truck, I like the color scheme, green on the inside too?

You sound like you got it figured out, here is $.02

1. Go to any local parts place and get a 12.00 Chilton or Haynes manual.
2. Buy a 6 or 8 dollar 4 point hub socket......no hammer required.

I would add, get yourself some curve tip probes. It's much easy to grab/dislodge stuff with them. At least one 90 degree sharp tip.
BTW sweet truck.

use a pick set or small screw driver to walk the washer off.
in case you didn't notice the second nut has a little nipple on it that goes into one of the holes in the washer. when you put it back together that nut has to go in 1st with the nipple facing out then the wash then the outer nut.

Thanks for the tips and compliments. She's in good shape now. Just waiting on some parts from broncograveyard.

Pics and a pinion socket I have. Don't have a manual. Apparently my memory is gone too. Been longer than I want to admit since I've worked on one of these.
