Angry FUEL PUMP RELAY

2004 F-350, V10, Auto, 82,000 miles.
At 80,000 I had to replace the fuel pump, now the dealer tells me my fuel pump relay is bad and is NOT replaceable. They say the whole control box needs to be replaced at the tune of $700.00!!! I can't believe the relay can't just be replaced with a new one since it is listed in the Ford parts book as a separate item. HELP!!

A model 2000 V10 schematic shows it as a separate relay...but who knows if it's the same as a 2004. I also came across an old post that talked about the fuel pump relay being right next to the AC relay just above the steering column on the firewall.

I think with 2003 and later gas motors the fuel pump relay is part of the PCM and not replaceable ...

It's the same with the 6.0L
That relay is buried in the CJB. Along with a few others.
I think you might be able to bypass it and install one
outside the CJB. But doing that may have unknown risks.
One of them being if you were in an accident and something
were to happen would the insurance Co throw you to the sheep (er wolves).

I have seen CJBs for sale on Ebay for a lot less than $700.
Also they are not that hard to replace and you could pick up one
from AutoNation Ford White Bear Lake Parts (previously Tousley Ford Parts)
and install it your self.

no fuel pressure

2003 , f350 , fx4 , lariat, v10 , Crew cab, SRW. Have a no start condition. checked fuse in main fuse panel, checked inertia switch to see if needed reset. replaced fuel pump. Still no start. Went to dealership to find out where fuel pump relay is located. they did not know or care to share. Napa says thay have relay for $ 20. they don't know where to plug it in . Any ideas out there? Any help is appreciated.

Looks like it resides behind the radio.

Take care.

.
Not on an '03 Super Duty V10. It's integrated into the CJB and is not an individually serviceable part as Yahiko already said twice. It was moved starting around the 2002 MY for the pckups.

fuel pump relay

So The fix for a suspected faulty fuel pump relay is to replace the main fuse panel down by the drivers left knee?

That would be the fix for a known faulty fuel pump relay unless you can do a component level repair or a relay bypass.

I should have some time later tonight to look for the diagram for the CJB so
you can test that relay to make sure that is the problem.
In the meantime here is a PDF on pinpoint testing and a few others things.

Fuel Pump relay

I greatly appreciate the input and depth of knowledge on this site. To update you on my progress so far: Pulled fuse #40 (fuel pump) in the CJB, turned key on , read 12v on input side, checked and replaced fuse. disconnected 2 wire harness at inertia switch, turned key on , read 8.3 volts on DG/Y input to inertia switch. Ran wire from battery thru 15 amp house switch to output from inertia switch. Started truck drove to town and back. I don't really understand what could cause the voltage drop between the fuse and the inertia switch. Is the fuel pump relay the only device between the fuse and the inertia switch.

The 8.3V that you came up with. Was that between the relay output and the
inertia switch? If so that is a large drop in the voltage.
I'll get the 03 diagram and post in an hr or so.

Thanks Yahiko, That voltage drop was between the fuse and the inertia switch. tomorrow i will pull the fuse panel and find and check the output of the relay. Didn't get much time to work on it today. i will check for your posts 1st thing in the morning. thanks
