I'm trying to figure out if my stock springs will work. I'm doing a v-10 to diesel swap in my Excursion. I know that a 7.3 weighs appx 498# more than a 6.8 v-10. Will 500 extra lbs squat the front end badly? Also I don't know if the 500# weight difference was with or without fluids? Thanks for any help I can get!
Yes they are stock. I've got a donor f-250 that I'm getting the diesel from, I'll measure the front and rear springs and see if I can swap them. That should make it sit a little taller too hopefully. Thanks for the help.
From the factory all 4X4 V-10 EXs came with C code front springs rated at 3680lbs. The PSD EXs came with D codes rated at 4080lbs, so yeah that big 7.3 would have the front end riding pretty low. If you have the entire PSD donor truck check the door sticker for spring codes, SuperDuties came with a variety of different front springs. Spring swaps are very common here in the EX community due to Ford's decision to put wimpy soccer mom springs on our EXs.

Might want to check out the V code springs...both gasser and diesel models have the V/B spring swap or the V/Modded B spring swaps and diesel model owners seem to be as happy as gasser model owners are.

Hahaha ok I'll check the spring code to make sure I don't have soccer mom springs on the donor. I should be all set if the springs will interchange from a 02 f-250 to my 00 EX.

Oh, if your EX springs are stock they are soccer mom springs! Thats all Ford had for the King of SUVs! Thats why the hot setup is swapping in SD truck springs, mucho bettero! And yes '02 SD leaves will swap into a 4X4 EX just fine, my springs are from an '03 SD.
I'm a Kodiak rider!

Ok I'll see what the donor has but it does sit a lot taller so I'm thinking I'll be getting a 2fer.....a lift and the springs I'll need for the extra weight.

No lift if they just make up for the weight. You could drop the motor in, see where it sits, and install some shackles for a cushy ride.
Perfect! Thank you!! The green EX in you avatar pic is the one with 03 SD springs? It looks great with a little wheel well!
Yes, but I also did a little bit of modding to both front and rear to get it where it is now. One extra leaf up front, two out back along with taller blocks. Pic shows it with 32" tires, now running 35"s, looks even better I think.

Thant's great Brent, Glad it's perfect for your uses but I use mine for heavier work and the softee springs didn't do so well for that job.

Well the truck should have the correct springs for aN SD with the PSD, so the right weight rating and EXs left the factory riding about 2" lower that their pickup cousins so you should get a little lift from them too, it all depends on how well worn your original spring are and how tired the SD's springs are but should be a bit taller in the end.

Yeah, should be a little lift in this swap, the trucks all rode taller that our mighty EXs. And going with shackles and the V-10 springs with the PSd swapped in should really be cushy, maybe too much, I don't know........
This is exactly what I was hoping to find when joining this site! Thanks everyone for the advise and expertise. I'm by no means mechanically challenged but knowing some of the minuscule details going into a project saves a lot of time and even more importantly.....saves money! I can see me becoming a paying member so I can take full advantage of all FTE has to offer and also so I can post some pix of my swap. Thanks again!
