Guys give me your ideas, I’m ready to build a new truck, all I know is I want is a truck between 73 and 79, probably going to find a HiBoy, and drop a bad *** 460 in it. I don’t want to go as high as this truck on e-bay. Other than that I don’t know. So guys throw them up against the wall and let’s see if they stick.

Thats easy. Rockwell axles for strength and bragging rights, and if you really want to make it different add rear steer. The Rockwells are cheaper and easier to do than most people realize. You also need to think about what you want to do with it. Truck shows? Trail rig? Mud drags? You will build much differently for each of these objectives.
Whichever truck you decide on, you need to be aware of the emissions restrictions. The 78-79 models are probably not ideal when comparing emissions and equipment requirements.
The older trucks, say at or near the beginning of the 73-79 series trucks will be less involved with emissions equipment especially when it comes to which trucks are required to have any at all. The weight of the truck determined what emissions equipment a truck had installed at the factory in most cases. There is an exception where trucks were required to have much more equipment when built and bound for California dealerships. Be cautious not to get one of these California trucks because they will always be required to maintian the original equipment they were built with except if they don't fall within a states emissions testing requirements.
I think they started doing emission controls in 79 because my 78 F-150 4x4 doesnt have any controls on it but i know someone who has a 79 and they do. You should build a clone of Big Foot #1 (76 F-250 Ranger 4X4) there is a nice picture of it in the gallery of www.bigfoot4X4.com go to the 1999 gallery and it is the march pic (that is my plan for my next project)
hell i live in north dakota nobody cares about all that emission junk. do care about some exhaust though ive been pulled over 3 times this last month lol
