Is there a reason my...

Is there some reason why my front crank seal won't stay sealed??? This is the third or fourth time that it's started leaking.

It's a new balancer so there isn't a groove, and I silicones around the outside when I put it in, so the seal is what keeps blowing.

I replaced it last time and it held. Til now... Probably about 3 months ago.

I would say replace it again and make sure you get the best quality seal you can get. Also check to make sure the crank is really clean before you put it on, maybe wipe it with mineral spirits on a rag just a little bit? I don't know if that would help or not. Other than that I don't really know.

There don't seam to be any high performance seals around. I've got a national in it now. Guess I'll have to get another national.

. Is the crank loose in the bearings? How many miles on the engine? I think National offers seals of both standard rubber and of Viton rubber... I assume you oil the seal lip and seal surface on balancer when installing the seal...

Check your seal after you pull it out. They tear easily without even knowing it. I used a large socket and it popped right in. Be sure to use assembly lube too, helps her slide in. May not be your problem but its pretty common

I dont understand why this seal went out. I just replaced it a couple months ago when i put a new balancer on.

I'll be replacing it again I guess. But is there anything out there better than a national? Like a high performance seal?

I'm going to echo BuzzLOL's statements... just because it's a new build doesn't mean it was assembled correctly (and makes me wonder who did the rebuild & assembly).

My first thought was excess blowby & pressure in the crankcase but would there even be a way for any such pressure to make its way to the crankshaft seal?

This is not a common problem, seems *something* is wrong someplace but the symptoms are showing up in this seal....

Yes it's the correct weight,

There is some blow by in the engine, but I have my PCV system working too.

do you have a lot of accessory ? check to not over load your belt tension.use a large socket to install oil sceal. use some grease before installing the damper. also check your crankshaft end play 0.004 to 0.008

what type of vents on valve covers?

I'd be looking at vents on engine. Also maybe a new seal and a sleeve on seal area? Is your dipstik the correct dipstick and proper level. check oil level and reference to seal level and see if oil level to high, scary simple stuff but you never know!
