I have bene using a tender for years, during the MI winters I have the wifes BMW and my Bike hooked with no issues, when I was over seas the Bike was plugged for 5 years, no issues.

They both have permanent plugs that stick out for ease.

Undercharging isn't good either, because it wastes the money spent on the latest technology batteries. Different materials means different charging voltage profiles in the bulk and absorption phase, and different float charge voltage too. A tenth of a volt or two doesn't sound like much, but the difference between a full charge and dead is less than a volt. It's also temperature dependent. Most people only worry about their battery when it is cold, but it is HOT weather that causes the damage, from self-discharge and sulfation. Then when the first cold snap arrives the battery has no capacity.

The latest chargers allow for specific battery type selection. There's an excellent tutorial on battery and charger tech at http://www.batteryfaq.org where the author points out it's better to have a good charger and a cheap battery than the other way around. I like the type that are rugged and waterproof and can get banged around for my next purchase.

I use the Deltran Battery Tender Plus (pictured in the first post) which is connected to the drivers side battery (both Sears Platinum AGM batteries). I leave the Tender in the little space just in front of that battery and run the cord down in front of the left front tire where it is tied up. I then use a short extension cord to plug it into the wall in the garage.

Since I don't drive the EX during the week (I have an agency vehicle) it stays on the Tender sometimes for weeks on end. I know this version is not water proof but I also don't go 4x4ing with it plugged in either.

I have had this Tender for about a year and it has worked perfectly for me. I also have a couple on lawn mowers and they are great as well.

If it can be, does it get too hot under the hood to mount it there?

Thanks.
I did mine with 2 plugs under the bumper, charger/block heater;

Since the batteries are in parallel, wouldn't we just need one charger to keep both of them charged?

Just thinkin out loud.

charger

No battery is alike.One weak battery can discharge the other.that means you should change both when needed.

That's what I've been doing for almost a year now with no issues. I normally keep the maintainer on the passenger battery.....and I have checked the driver's side with a voltmeter while charging, and it is the same voltage.

Yup, just need one charger on one battery. Two chargers hooked to the same circuit doesn't work out to good.

It is true though one bad battery will kill the other.
