Ok so I wanted to drive my truck for a while before making any decisions because the engine wasn't in a daily driven vehicle for years until now, but I've put 3000 miles on it and this is my problem that's stayed the same if not gotten worse.(with colder weather symptoms are worse) starts rough when cold, horrible idle when cold start, tons of white smoke from I burnt fuel, when it warms up from driving it will clear up but I can let it idle all day with smoke. The idle will clear up after 15 minutes or so if I leave it alone but I usually just hammer down because it's much faster. I feel no loss of power.
This is what I've done to the motor.
New glow plugs
Reman injectors
Return lines
New Mechanical lift pump
All new fuel lines, tank
The glow plugs are wired to a manual button so I hold them on for whatever time it needs depending on ambient temp
The engine is a factory turbo engine
Basically ready to do the ip cus I don't see any other options. Changing the injectors and return lines didn't help AT ALL. Let me know what you think
it's cheaper to pull the injectors and have them tested/inspected than tossing parts at it.then again,if the ip has high miles on it anyway....... i would still test those remans though.
I agree, my dad's truck is doing this shortly after a new IP, injectors, and return kit. Typically if it clears up it's a return line issue or a leaky injector. Pop test those injectors, should pop at about 1800 PSI with no drips/leaks. If they do drip or leak, or open up at a lower PSI, there's your problem.
