This summer I plan of towing the Razz (Geo) and I would like to ask if any body has experience with rear camera's. I've been looking at them and I have no idea of what to choose. I know it can't be wireless but I'll figure out what to do with the wires. I just want to be able to keep an eye on Razz while I'm going down the road. Razz will now be my toad, as the RV industry calls a towed car. Thanks!!
It can't be wireless because Glenn's wife has a sensitivity to wireless signal, if I recall correctly. And we all know we don't want to make our women any more cranky than they naturally are...
I have no experience with this Glenn...sorry. Oh, and that's a great lookin car! Holy cow...clean.
Glenn, if you're inclined, PM me about the wireless sensitivity. Something my wife and I have been dealing with for a long time (I work in IT). I can tell you about something we use that's been real helpful. She'd want something like it anyway; think about how much wireless cr@p there is all over. We have Peak brand wireless reverse cameras on the two PSDs, and I sometimes leave the monitor turned on in the cab. I can often see surveillance cameras, other peoples trailer/reverse cams, etc. just going down the road, several yards away. 'Course, our sitch is different, because the transmitter is triggered by the reverse lights so it's only on for a short time, and I presume the idea of a toad cam is to have it available all the time.
BTW, the Peak cam is a decent product, except for one thing; the connectors going into the transmitter suck. Tiny little pins, tiny little connectors, lousy loose fit. I'm poking around eBay at plain-old NTSC wired cams, and they're crazy cheap, something like $15-20 for a license plate mount cam and about $20 for a monitor. You'll need RCA-jack extensions, but those would only be a few bucks. At those prices, you can just about afford to carry a spare cam and monitor, in case of any "cheap China crap" quality issue.
Waitaminit, it's not really gonna be a "toad", is it? It's gonna be on the 5-er? I always see "toad" used for a runabout car/truck that's towed on its own wheels behind a truck/RV.
Oh, and it's not really OT; any knowledge/wisdom gained here can be applied to reverse cameras for our trucks, which, when you have a topper, can be very useful.
Glenn I bought a rearveiw mirror back up system on fleabay or amazon (sorry cant find ticket) It was made by Peak I think. It works well hardwired and has two inputs so you could use one the truck and the other for the fiver and it uses standard rca plugs it is wireless but I could never get it to work that way.
Good luck
Just curious Glenn, but do you monotoir tire presure on the 5er and the toad?
No, I don't. Just when ever I check it by hand. I do have one of those laser temp device and at rest stops will see what's going on.

Tyler below answered the question about wireless. I have a Stow Master tow bar and you put the Geo in second gear and transfer case in neutral to tow it. The book says to stop every two hundred miles and start it for a few minutes to get the gears lubed.

You got the first par. 100% right, LOL Couple of years ago my wife saw this Geo for sale and told me to go look at it. I was a half a block away from it and said to myself, no way, I hate the color. But when I starting looking at it, it was like brand new. A couple from SD would leave this in their garage down here for nine months out of the year and only use it three months during the winter. The color has grown on me,
Funny, this 80 year old guy saw me working on the PSD and stopped and ask me if I wanted a bunch of oil filters he had left over from having a truck like ours. I said sure, that would be great and I pulled the Geo out and he said, isn't that color a little gay? No offense to anybody, just thought it was funny coming from a really OLD guy!

I will PM you, that sounds interesting. Yes, I would like the camera to be on all the time while towing. I'll check on Peck camera's. I'm assuming that being towed behind a 5er on 4 wheels is still called a toad? I know you don't see it to much, I mostly see boats and trailers being towed behind a 5er.

That's two for 'Peck'. Thanks guys, I appreciate the advise!
No real experience but I read a write up in the SD section a while back and the wireless backup setup this guy had wouldn't work well with his CCLB. Range was too far.
