Big Thunk form under and back

Driving my 04 350 PSD/SRW 1500k miles today I heard a big thunk from the back (twice). Both times my foot was off the gas going about 35 to slow down for a 25 mph zone (no brake). It was like I had something in big and heay in the bed that fell over (bed is empty) ( felt the second one). Then one more time when I was backing into the driveway.

I thought I saw something about this but could not find it. Any experiance with anything like this? (before I try to talk to the dealer about something I can not reproduce at will) (at least not yet)

Thanks for any help ......................

sounds like a U joint starting to make a little noise, but that shouldn't be in a new truck. crawl underneath your truck and tug on the driveshaft side to side and up and down to see if that could be the problem. maybe it's a little slop in your rearend that will get worse overtime. i had a similar sound in my 01, but it was the carrier bearing going out. stupid question....but have you used your spare tire recently? maybe you didn't get it synched back up there tight.

Not stupid and thanks, but no have never touched the spare. I will check it anyway though. I hope it is that simple.

This may sound silly but might be worth checking.

From time to time I get a loud thud from the bottom back also. I traced it to the fuel tank. When I get to a half a tank or so, and when stopping or slowing, all of the fuel would slosh forward in the tank producing the above mentioned thud.

It only seems to happen at about half full. As soon as I fill er up, no more thud.

I will check out but it is one of those thuds, that when you are a long way from home sends chills down your back).

Since the truck is brand new and the probelm is hard to produce on demand ... Is ther some way I can get the dealership to acknowledge this "issue" now, incase it manifests later past the warranty?

Phil350 I have tracked a thud...thunk sound to the slip joint on the drive shaft several times on my truck and two "friends" SuperDuty trucks. Pretty simple removal, grease and reinstal. About half an hour. On one truck the sound was a right rear cab to chassis bolt loose. HTH

I have a 2001 F250 and sometimes at start up I hear a loud noise like the brakes are stuck and they are releasing or 4 wheel drive popping out. I have yet to find the problem.

When you say "at start up" do you mean when you first take off? If that's the case the spline may need greasing with teflon grease. It's called the "Super Duty Clunk". Where the two drivelines meet, behind the carrier bearing, there's a slip yoke - take the back driveline off and lube the female splines on the front driveline liberally. Use teflon grease. For more info do a search on "Clunk".
NOTE: Some of us have drilled and tapped the male yoke for a grease fitting.

If you have weight in the back and the overloads get close to the frame brackets it will make a noise just like are talking about, it just takes a little bump and they hit

(1) Check to see if the ubolts to the springs are tight. It could be that the ubolts are loose and, with that 4” block, allowing the rear diff to float.
(2) Most dealers are aware of the “Super Duty Clunk”. If you can’t find anything that’s obvious then tell them they need to grease the yoke. (I highly doubt that this is the problem, but you never know)
(3) Have you checked your spare yet as was mentioned?

Most of the time it is before I put the truck in gear. Sometimes it is just at take off point.

Yes, Just as the motor is started and idling down is when it happens most of the time. Sometimes I am in a rush and jump in and start the truck and put it in gear and it makes the noise just as I am about to pull off. I have never heard it any other time like stop and go or if I park and leave the truck running it will not do it again.
