next question, what would you all do? tear into it an repair or look for a long block. i heard somewhere there was a place that sold long blocks already studded? looking for ideas on this an what may be the cheapest most sensible route

I tell you what, if I ever pop the head gaskets on my truck I think Id rather get a studded, fresh long block with a warranty rather than just do studs(assuming I have to take the cab off anyway). Just for piece of mind.
If you have to pull the engine and spend time looking for other damage and "hoping" you don't find any, I'd think a fresh long block would make me feel better. What are they, $4500?

I think replace the following. Lifters, LPOP, LPOP regulator, studs, head gaskets and other items depending on year and mileage. If it is a 05+ I would do dummy plugs, stand pipes and a STC if they have not been done. New oil cooler depending what shape it is in. Blue spring update if has not been done yet. It did not run very long without LPOP and personally I would not go through the expense of a long block if everything else is ok.

Asheville Engine Rebuilders - Contact Us

I know a mechanic that has installed 10 of these engines with zero failures and one with 130,000 + miles on it now.

Not saying you need a long block, just providing information to consider.

Looks like a needle bearing escaped from a lifter and made its way to the oil pump.

If it was me and I had another vehicle to drive, I would pull it and rebuild it myself. If I had the $ and time and was close to Kansas city....I would look up Run6.0Run!

thats what we were thinking here too.im alrady studded but i do feel the head gaskets need replaced again as i have presure in degas bottle and white residue. hopin not a cracked head.that is also why i bring up a long block.

Yeah, that is from a needle bearing out of a lifter. I have replaced several long blocks for the same thing. You could rebuild it, if you have the time, space and know how.

I'm a Ford technician, so I use Ford reman long blocks. We have seen very few problems with them.

The studs are reusable. I believe up to 5 times if I remember right.

Your studs are reusable but really depends on how much they were torqued to begin with. Some people really torque them down way over recommended specs. If they are torqued correctly they will be ok. I've heard twice but thats neither here nor there.

anyone direct me on where to find good price on short blocks? that may or may not come with lpop and front cover?

thanks guys

OEM remain short block is around 5000 bucks and has an unlimited mileage 2 year warranty. That is where I would get it as I am not into doing things twice.
