e4od wiring

i just bought a 97 f250 5.8 e4od.the trucks transmission was bad so i replaced it with one from a 94 f250 same motor.the only difference between the trannys are the solenoid plugs.does anybody know how i can wire the 94s plug into the 97s wireing harness? thank for the help.

You need to swap the solenoid pack from the '97 into the '94 donor transmission. There are internal electrical differences between the two packs.

Also need to ask how you determined the original transmission was bad? More than once a perfectly good one was replaced because of a bad sensor.

i got the truck off of a buddy who said it slipped,so we dropped the pan and the magnet was covered and the filter was nothing but metal shavings,so there is no way to splice the plug ino the 97s plug?

You can use a 94 solenoid pack on a 95+ truck if you use the correct connector. You just can't use a 95+ transmission on a 94 or earlier truck.

As Lead Head is alluding to you can use an older style solenoid pack connector from a '94 and older donor but electrically the 95+ solenoid packs are different. So the easiest solution, which many use, is to swap the solenoid pack from the 97 onto the 94 donor transmission.

The only thing that is different, is that the protection diodes moved from the solenoid pack to the ECU in 95+ systems. So you can use the earlier solenoid pack with late model ECUs - you just have redundant diodes.

The wire colors and functions should have remained the same from at least 1992 to '96/97 for the solenoid pack connector (C1048). I verified using my Ford EVTM manual. 1994 and 1997 models match this diagram:

i swapped plugs today, and the 97s solenoid plug had 2 solid red wire connectors and the 94s plug has a solid red wire and a white with red striped wire. i connected the solid red to.the white with red stripe wire and nothing,i then tried swapping them with the other red wire and still no shift.the truck will manually go through all the gears but overdrive.if i put the truck in drive it will automatically go to second gear.all of the 9 wires are hooked up to the same colors bit the 2 wires mentioned above.im lost now
