Throttle position sensor or VSS problem. Is your speedometer working okay?

Just because it is new does not mean anything other than your wallet is lighter. Check the output with a meter. Turn the key to the On/Run position then measure the closed throttle value. Slowly open the throttle to verify the output is linear to ~5.00 VDC (VREF).

For reference: Fuel Injection Technical Library » Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

I think you are saying that you replaced the TR sensor on the side of the transmission.
Right?

There are no adjustments on the truck for the VSS.
The VSS is mounted on the center of the rear axle and just goes in with a bolt holding it in.

The TR sensor:

The VSS:

E4OD isn't the problem, it's a computer issue at this point. Have you tried pulling the codes?

i pulled codes tonight and the only one i coul tell was code 121 i believe it has to do with the tps sensor. i was thinking about going and getting a 97 shift solenoid and installing the 97s plug

Once again, the problem has nothing to do with the solenoid pack or your transmission. If its shifting through all the gears, its electrically fine.

The problem is the computer thinks you're wide open throttle, and the fact that you're still getting a TPS code confirms this.

I don't think I'm hijacking here because I'm faced with a similar dilemma..

Will I be safe using a pre '95 computer on a '97 E4OD?

No diode protection?

Correct, neither the pre-'95 PCM or the '97 solenoid pack have protection diodes.

I would not suggest you try it.

I would not do it as it may be hard the PCM Computer and may also be hard on the clutch disks.

They are damper diodes to stop ringing in the solenoid coils. A ringing coil will make the valve shutter and its oil flow would pulse as you will not get a positive off and on from the valve. With out the diodes you could also cause a high voltage spike and take out something in the PCM Computer. The coils might be acting like an Ignition coil also.

Possible to solder in diodes in the older PCM?(sounds unlikely)
Swap a pre '95 solenoid pack and harness?

I am wondering because I am doing a MAF swap on my '97 and can't find a post '95 MAF computer for the swap.

Also I have a punisher valve body and a 12" Circle D converter in my E4OD.
